Laserline CSL for the cover of the hubergroup calendar 2017

From the series "Our best-looking varnishing plates"

Softtouch varhish by hubergroup and Laserline CSL by BIRKAN for the cover Detail of hubergroup calendar 2017 calendar back with further explanations

If we were able to award a prize for the year's best-looking varnishing plate (OK, so there are already umpteen different awards in the printing industry!), then the one we recently had the privilege of laser engraving for the cover of the hubergroup "Colours of Nature" calendar would almost certainly be our favourite. It was our customer Staudigl-Druck of Donauwörth, which produced the entire large-format calendar on behalf of the hubergroup, who had the idea of using an elastomer, laser engraved varnishing plate for this challenging job with its soft touch varnish. And thanks to the excellent cooperation between everyone involved in the printing and prepress departments, we got it right first time.

It’s amazing how good a single colour can look – though of course a photo can never actually compare with the real thing!

BIRKAN’s new diversity and a dazzling appearance at Drupa

Under the motto „Diversity Meets Precision” and between curved illuminated glass walls, BIRKAN presented not only the biggest portfolio in the company's history, but also a redesigned corporate identity.

The BIRKAN team was happy to experience a lot of interesting talks at the stand in hall 3. Visitors from approximately 70 countries consulted our collegues about the current range for the most diverse applications in offset or flexographic printing. Here are some impressions:

Geared up for the future and more diversified than ever – that's BIRKAN in 2016.
What began at the last Drupa trade fair with the introduction of direct laser engraving and the sale of flexible plates is meanwhile established as an integral part of the company’s product range. The high demand for laser engraved elastomer plates has been again very high during Drupa. In combination with comprehensive services of HANS KAPPL, such as reproduction, proofing or photopolymer plates, BIRKAN is now able to offer a greater choice of options for the customer's individual printing situation. Furthermore, BIRKAN has simultaneously increased its share in its core segment of the market – printing blankets – a result of several successful private-label products in the fields of UV printing, packaging printing or banknote printing.

Award for tin can printed with Laserline CML

Nussbaum’s photorealistic rendering creates a holiday feeling

Laserline CML and Nussbaum SunsprayA prototype for a mini sun spray created by Nussbaum, the Swiss can printing specialist, placed particularly high demands on the ink transfer process: in addition to the "small print" in tiny fonts – some of them reverse types – the picture of a colourful, sun-soaked tropical beach was designed to conjure up that perfect holiday feeling. This was achieved, amongst other things, using Laserline CML, a printing plate specially developed for printing tin cans and tubes with a maximum theoretical resolution of 5080 dpi. The plates were manufactured by BIRKAN by direct laser engraving.

The idea, its execution and above all the photorealistic rendering have just been honoured with the World Aluminium Aerosol Can Award 2015. Congratulations from the BIRKAN team!
